Next steps for findings of benign Endometrial cells on a normal pap test.
Recently in my practice I had a few pap tests that came back noting that there were endometrial cells. I wanted to know if the follow-up recommendations for this had changed over the years so I reached out to our local regional cervix screening program lead, gynecologist Dr. Andra Nica. Here was her very helpful reply for Management and Follow-Up of benign endometrial cells on Pap:
-
- Pre-menopausal women who are asymptomatic require no action (continue to follow usual screening guidelines).
- Post-menopausal women require investigations, including adequate endometrial tissue sampling.
- Any woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding requires investigation, which should include adequate endometrial tissue sampling.”
And by the way, Dr Nica is available for eConsults and is an expert for suggesting next steps for cervix screening.
