Cervix Screening Interval for Immunocompromised Patients 

Most average risk patients should have HPV screening every five years. However, a three-year interval is recommended if they are immunosuppressed as this may impair the ability to clear an HPV infection. 

At my  office, we are trying to leverage our EMR’s functionality to pre- identify patients who might need screening every 3 years due to their compromised  immune status. For example, when we get a note from a specialist with information  about a patient’s immunity (eg medications or diagnoses ), we input this into our disease registry  so when the cervix screening comes due, this information is handy. Part of this quality improvement process involved clarifying what the screening program considers immunocompromised.  I thought it might be helpful to share. Here is a summary slide:
