Expression of Interest: Call for Artwork in the Indigenous Healing Space at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre
In collaboration with the Regional Cancer Program (RCP), the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre (JHCC) is excited to announce a call for artwork from Indigenous artists across the region. We are seeking contributions that will be featured in our new Indigenous Healing Space, which will continue to be part of the upcoming facility expansion. We have allocated a temporary space that will be located on the main floor, next to Wellwood Cancer Support Center.
The Indigenous Healing Space aims to be a place of reflection, healing, and cultural celebration, reflecting themes of healing, unity, and Indigenous teachings. By inviting artists to contribute, we offer an opportunity to share artistic visions that resonate with these themes. The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, in partnership with the Regional Cancer Program, is committed to understanding and addressing the experiences of Indigenous Peoples to promote meaningful reconciliation within the health system. We acknowledge that our care is provided on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, and we recognize the diverse First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, Urban Indigenous communities in Hamilton and surrounding areas. We are aware of the impacts of colonialism, systemic racism, and violence on Indigenous communities, and we are dedicated to listening, learning, and supporting Indigenous communities as allies.
